BADV Ananda Mela 2007

Plenty of talent was seen in this year’s Ananda Mela, which was organized by BADV on July 21st in Wilmington, Delaware at Concord High School.   After singing the Bangladeshi and American anthems, junior Bangladeshis began the festivities with songs and poems.  The cultural event progressed with adorable children ages 6 to 8 years old dancing.  Afterwards a panel of five community members, ranging from recent graduates to parents, spoke to the audience regarding college prep.  Then dinner was served and an ongoing bazaar was filled with beautiful clothing and ornaments.  The break was followed by songs by our youth.  The New Jersey Youth teams performed lively dances and a well-coordinated fashion show.  BADV seniors and guest artists including Ms. Sonali Roy sang for the community as well.  All performers were awarded medals.  Additional entertainment was the exciting raffle draw.  Also, children were given opportunities to watch movies in the classrooms if they preferred.  This event was fun for all.  Hope to see you at next event (Picnic-2007), with family and friends.  Thanks to BADV, participants and the community.

Annual Function 2006 - 2007:

The Annual Function, which was organized by BADV, was held on 27 January 2007 at the Locke Alain School in Philadelphia, PA. The joyful event started with Bangladesh and USA national anthems sang by kids of ‘Moder Patshala’ of Philadelphia, PA. Then our youth talent Adil Malik presented his Documentary-Slide-Show about Noble Laureate Dr. Yunus and his work.

Before the break, a local illusionist-edu-tainer performed a ‘Magic Show’.  Both adults and children enjoyed the show. As per my knowledge, this is the first time Bangladesh Association of Delaware Valley took a step like this and it succeeded to entertain the kids and grownup alike.

After the break, youth performers Fariha Quabili and Tonima Quabili started the 2nd part with the solo songs. Followed by the ‘Fashion Show’, by Mrs. Yasmin Chowdhury and performed by little children from different age groups, which was indeed caught attention of the audiences. Everybody loved it, specially the little ones.

The Dance program ‘Shaping the Divine’, by Dr. Pallabi Chakravorty was spectacular. It was wonderful to get the opportunity to watch ‘Kaththak’ dance after a long time, while living in the USA.

‘Sangeet Lohori’ a production of Mr. Salahuddin Ahmed (Tarek Bhai), was also phenomenal. Performed by Tarek Bhai himself along with Mrs. Kashfia Billah and Mr. Shaheen Haque; the songs were wonderful and enjoyed by everybody. Last performance by our guest artist, Uma Khan was excellent. She sang lot of well-known Bangladeshi movie songs, which took the audiences back to the past. Mr. Shamsul Farid (Farid Bhai) was excellent as usual. He cast a spell on everybody by singing Sareng Bou movie sound track “Orey Neel Doria”.

So in short, the Annual Program was a wonderful event and everybody wants to see more like this in near future.

- Seephat Mahin, 29 January 2007.
